A Patient’s Story: How A Chronic Condition Led to Chronic Kidney Disease and How He Overcame It
According to the National Institute of Diabetes and Kidney Disease, more than 37 million American adults may have chronic kidney disease. Chronic Kidney Disease means your kidneys are damaged and can’t filter blood the way they should. The disease is called “chronic” because the damage to your kidneys happens slowly over a long period of time and this damage can cause wastes to build up in your body.
You are at risk for kidney disease if you have diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or a family history of kidney failure. Your chances of having kidney disease also increases with age. The longer you have had diabetes, high blood pressure, or heart disease, the more likely that you will have or develop kidney disease.
Tune in as a former ESRD patient shares which chronic disease led to his chronic kidney condition, the treatments he endured and how choosing to have a kidney transplant impacted his quality of life.
