Signs of Opioid Addiction: Screening Tools to Assess Opioid Use Disorder and Referral to Treatment

This session will provide participants with information about the disease of opioid use disorder (including the elderly population); opioid pharmacology; stigma and drug addiction; harmful consequences of opioid abuse and basic approaches to prevent and treat opioid use disorders. The importance of universally screening patients for substance use disorder and opioid use disorder will also be discussed. Participants will gain an understanding of the SBIRT model and knowledge of the tools used in identifying and assisting patients in primary care or other settings, who are at risk for mild, moderate, or potentially excessive use of alcohol, opioids, or other drugs.
