Exploring Strategies to Prevent Hypoglycemia in Hospitalized Patients | Oct. 28, 2021

Hypoglycemia is common among inpatient diabetics, occurring in 3-10% of patients receiving insulin. A common misconception is that hypoglycemia in inpatients is relatively innocuous and that it is similar in severity and risk to that of outpatients, and often little is done other than to treat the episode; prevention of the next event is often not considered. This course will discuss the top causes of inpatient hypoglycemia and offer strategies to prevent their occurrence. I addition, a tool will be offered to aid hospitals in determining which processes most commonly lead to hypoglycemia in their patients. Tips and tricks will be provided to small hospitals with low case numbers that are having difficulty finding the data.
