SUMMARY:

The presentation will help health care professionals know the difference between buprenorphine and other opioids including its use in pain management and treatment of opioid use disorder. Specifically, recommendations regarding perioperative pain management.

THE LEARNER WILL BE ABLE TO:

  1. Differentiate between the pharmacologic and pharmacokinetic characteristics that make buprenorphine a unique opioid.
  2. Review issues that make perioperative pain management difficult in patients on chronic buprenorphine.
  3. Compare and contrast different recommendations regarding perioperative pain management for patients on chronic buprenorphine therapy for OUD.
